What a day!!

Well, the team is all together in Siem Reap.  The Victorian crew flew in at 9:30am and the NT crew flew in at 3pm.  I think some may have seen enough of the inside of a plane for a little while.

For the Victorian crew, our "day" began at 4pm on Saturday when the bus started its pick up round and began the 3 hour drive to Tullamarine Airport, and finished at 9:30am local time in Cambodia on Sunday (which was actually 1:30pm back at home).  Most of us surviving on less than 5 hours sleep.

For the NT crew, some had begun their journey earlier in the week when they made their way into Darwin from various sites around the Territory and PNG.  They arrived at the airport in the wee hours of Sunday morning and after surviving a 6 hour layover in Singapore, hit Siem Reap at 3pm.  Most also surviving on less than 5 hours sleep.

The wonders of Cambodia - a great little restaurant next door meant wholesome Cambodian food served in very quick time.  The staff at the restaurant were keen to help us learn some more Khmer words - such a hard language as many of the sounds we do not make in spoken English.

We finished off the night with a visit to the Phare Circus.  If you are ever in Siem Reap and you get the chance, spend an evening with them.  JGI! (Just Google It!) and you will see the history of this great program, originating out of Battambang and assisting many young artists from poor social backgrounds to make a living and earn some money from the various art forms.  Tonight's story was 'White Gold' and it told the tale of conflict that arises when greed and the need for capital wealth gets in the way of the more traditional sharing and family values, using rice as the commodity.  Very entertaining.

The team finally made it back to the hotel for a well earned rest before our actual program starts tomorrow.  There will be 17 very tired heads hitting 17 very welcome pillows this evening!!!
